Micro-Needling, my favorite new skin resurfacing device!

Have you heard about micro-needling?

Despite the fact this little device looks like an ancient torture device, micro-needling is actually on the cutting edge of technology and helps rejuvenate your skin. These micro-needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers your body to fill these microscopic wounds by producing new collagen and elastin, this is called wound healing! Benefits include helping the appearance of acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles.

Because the epidermis remains intact, micro-needling can be repeated safely and is also suited to regions where laser treatments and deep peels are not typically performed such as around the eyes and mouth, hands, and chest. It works best when combined with Retin-A and topical antioxidants that penetrate the skin and help to rejuvenate the skin.

You can find this procedure done at some doctor’s offices. There is also a micro-pen with radio frequency model and even at home versions have earned blessings by dermatologists. I have one at home and admit that I am not regular with using it. Frankly, it is prickly and uncomfortable to use. Ouch! But, when I use it I do see an improvement in the texture of my skin. The caveat here is that you have to use it for it to work, and let’s be truthful, it can be uncomfortable! Professional procedures often include the use of numbing cream before the procedure to minimize any discomfort.

But many would say that a little pain is small sacrifice to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, scarring and wrinkles. I would love your feedback on this product and whether you would like to see this treatment at sfskincare.
