The Truth About Chemical Peels

The Truth About Chemical Peels

Most people seem to have the misconception that chemical peels will leave their skin raw, tender and irritated.  Why would you want to rush into the aesthetician and request something like that?  The truth is that a good peel should leave your skin radiant and healthy looking.  Chemical peels can tackle issues with skin tone, texture, fine lines, wrinkles and discoloration.  With all the confusion about peels, it would have been better if the skin care industry had used the term “treatment” instead of “peel.”

Essentially, your skin will continue to produce new skin cells throughout your life. To remove them, you can either do it by physically removing the old, dead cells with a gentle scrub or with your trusty Clarisonic skin scrubber. Or, you can chemically exfoliate by using products that contain retinols, glycolic acid or having a professional PCA peel.

A chemical peel is particularly effective in removing the buildup of dead skin and speeding up cellular turn over.  Many skin issues like acne are really the result of the accumulation of dead or damaged cells. After applying a peel, the skin will begin to shed the superficial cells and reveal glowing healthy skin.  Of course, there are several different types of peels depending on an individual skin type and the results you are hoping to achieve.

Peels really are an excellent treatment to give your skin the extra boost it needs to stay healthy and glowing.  My favorite is PCA Skin’s Sensi peel.  I have been giving myself these peels every 2 weeks for over 16 years! These peels are quick and super effective and you can do a series of peels for even better results. The best part is you can go out the night of a peel and look amazing, and no one will know it’s because you just had a peel.  No hiding out for two weeks while you heal.  If you are looking to maintain healthy vibrant skin or for a special glow before a big event, a PCA peel can be a great way to go!  Just remember, it’s crucial to follow the tips for post peel care to ensure that you get the best results.
